Salesforce implementation & integration

Health Cloud, Service Cloud, and Marketing Cloud. I handle the full implementation cycle: requirements discovery, data modeling, custom configuration, Apex development, and integration with EHR systems through FHIR and HL7 standards. Recent work includes patient outreach automation that contacts thousands of patients on schedule, and CCDA document exchange workflows for clinical data.

Custom software development

Backend services in Go, Python, and Apex. Frontend work in TypeScript and modern frameworks. APIs, scheduled jobs, ETL pipelines, and the glue code that connects Salesforce to Databricks, Snowflake, and external healthcare systems. I write tests for everything I ship and document the architecture so your team can maintain it.

Security & compliance architecture

SIEM deployment, endpoint security, and the compliance frameworks healthcare requires: HIPAA, TCPA, PCI DSS. I treat member and patient data as PHI from the first design conversation, not as a post-launch remediation task. Audit trails, role-based access, and incident response procedures are built into the system architecture.

Data engineering & analytics

Databricks lakehouses, dbt transformation layers, and BI dashboards that clinical operations teams actually use. I built the CMS-HCC V28 risk-adjustment model and the data pipelines that feed RADV audit work for a Medicare Advantage organization. That includes RAF optimization reporting and provider-level performance metrics.

Risk-adjustment data platform

Built a CMS-HCC V28 risk-adjustment model and the data pipeline feeding it. The platform supports RAF optimization and RADV audit readiness across a multi-clinic provider network. Includes provider-level performance reporting and automated gap-closure identification.

Implemented Salesforce Health Cloud for a Medicare Advantage primary care organization with five clinic locations. Configured patient outreach automation across multiple channels, designed CCDA workflows for clinical document exchange, and integrated with the existing EHR system.

Deployed SIEM and endpoint security across five clinic locations and 100+ endpoints. Established audit trails, alerting, and incident response procedures aligned to HIPAA requirements. Set up TacticalRMM for fleet management and patch deployment.

Migrated legacy reporting infrastructure to a Databricks lakehouse with a dbt transformation layer. Reduced reporting latency from days to hours and built self-service analytics dashboards for clinical operations teams to track their own performance.

Discovery & scoping

We start with a working session to understand your environment, constraints, and what success looks like. I review your existing Salesforce org, data warehouse, or infrastructure before proposing anything. You get a written scope with deliverables, timeline, and dependencies before any code gets written.

Build & integrate

I design the architecture, write the code, and configure the systems. For Salesforce work that means custom objects, Apex classes, flows, and integrations through MuleSoft or direct API connections. For data work that means dbt models, Databricks notebooks, and pipeline orchestration. You see progress in regular demos, not a black box.

Handoff & documentation

When the system ships, your team gets architecture documentation, deployment procedures, and training sessions. I stay available for the first 30 days after launch to handle questions and edge cases. The goal is your team owning the system, not depending on me indefinitely.

Common questions.

What types of projects do you take on?

Salesforce Health Cloud implementations and integrations, custom software development for healthcare workflows, data engineering and analytics platforms, and security architecture for regulated environments. Engagements range from focused 2-week assessments to multi-phase implementations running several months. If you are not sure whether your project fits, send a brief description through the form and I will tell you straight.

Do you work with existing Salesforce implementations or only new builds?

Both. A significant portion of my work involves auditing and fixing existing Salesforce orgs that have accumulated technical debt, and extending them with Health Cloud, Service Cloud, or custom functionality. I start with an org assessment before proposing changes.

How do you handle PHI and HIPAA compliance?

Every system I design assumes it will handle PHI. That means encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, audit logging, and data governance built into the architecture. I do not store production PHI in development environments. If your organization requires a BAA, that is established before any work begins.

Can you integrate Salesforce with our EHR system?

Yes. I have built integrations between Salesforce Health Cloud and EHR systems using FHIR APIs, HL7 standards, and middleware like MuleSoft. The integration approach depends on which EHR you use and what data needs to flow between systems.

What is your availability and response time?

I work across Pacific to Eastern time zones and am available for engagements throughout the US. For active projects, I respond same-day during business hours. For new inquiries through the contact form, I respond within one business day. On-site visits are available for the Twin Cities metro area.

Do you work independently or with a team?

I work independently on most engagements. For larger implementations that need multiple developers or specialized skills, I can bring in vetted contractors I have worked with before. You always know who is on your project and what they are responsible for.

Chris Gainus, PhD

IT Director and consulting architect with 15+ years building technology systems for healthcare organizations. My day job is running IT for a Medicare Advantage primary care network serving women 65+ across five clinic locations in the Twin Cities.

I have implemented Salesforce Health Cloud, migrated business intelligence platforms to Databricks, deployed SIEM and endpoint security across clinic fleets, and built CMS-HCC risk-adjustment models for Medicare value-based care. My PhD is in Information Systems, and I apply the same approach to system design that research demanded: test everything, document what you build, verify it works before you say it does.
